Welcome to Our First Blog!
Most would agree that our relationships with our horses & ponies are definitely one of ups and downs.  Horses are the best non-verbal communicators in the world, not only do they read each other’s body language but they pick up on our mood, and intention from our body language, the tension in our bodies, the tone in our voice, even from across the field.  Do you ever have those days when things aren’t clicking, you and your horse or pony seem to be on different wavelengths?  Maybe you’re in a rush, had a bad day at work, had a row with your partner, you’re just not in the right place emotionally?  Quirky Horse & I definitely have those days when communication fails us, our loading issues have certainly been one of those things where we have both had to take a step back, look at the situation with a fresh approach and build our mutual trust to move forwards positively.  This poem by Neil Davies has wise words for us all ……

FOR YOUR HORSE’S SAKE

When you walk into the stable
Don’t try to show who’s boss
Your horse won’t understand you
And he’ll be at a loss
Instead, just go and rub his head
Be kind, and furthermore
When you walk into the stable
Leave your ego at the door
When you walk into the paddock
You must go to your horse
Don’t think that he should come to you
Don’t chase or yell or force
Just take some feed to catch him
In this there’s no debate
When you walk into the paddock
Leave your ego at the gate
Every time you ride your horse
Think before you ask
Make it easy, always question
If he’s ready for the task
And when you have a problem
Don’t throw your weight around
Every time you ride your horse
Leave your ego on the ground
Whenever you are with your horse
Show him kindness first
Be nice and friendly always
And never think the worst
It’s sometimes not that easy
To know what’s in his mind
But whenever you are with your horse
Leave your ego far behind
